We are hiring up to thirty (30) full-time temporary Labourer 2 positions (with a term of up to 24 months) to support EPCOR Water Services Linear Assets Maintenance crews based out of the Aurum location in Edmonton, Alberta.
EPCOR Water Services is seeking self-motivated, hardworking individuals with prior labourer experience to perform outdoor work in all weather conditions. Successful candidates will support the operation and maintenance of Edmonton’s water distribution and transmission network.

What you’d be responsible for
Under the direction of the WDT System Maintenance Manager, and reporting to a Crew Lead, the Labourer 2 role is accountable for, but not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Repairing and maintaining water mains, valves, hydrants, and other water distribution assets.
- Operating system valves.
- Flushing, repairing, and conducting flow tests on hydrants.
- Performing black dirt and concrete restoration work.
- Driving EPCOR vehicles to transport tools, equipment, and materials to and from job sites.
- Safely using hand tools, power tools, pumps, and other related equipment.
- Supporting excavation crews in completing underground repairs to the water network.
- Updating systems and maintaining accurate operational records.
- Making safety a top priority while actively supporting a zero-injury workplace culture.
- Demonstrating a high-performance, disciplined, safe, accountable, and achievement-oriented approach to work that is focused, innovative, and easy to do business with.
- Performing other related duties associated with the operation and maintenance of the water distribution system, as assigned.
What’s required to be successful
Education and Experience
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent level of secondary education.
- Education verification is a condition of employment.
- A minimum of one (1) year of related labourer experience.
Licensing and Driving Requirements
- Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR Driver’s Permit, which requires:
- A valid Class 5 Alberta Operator’s Licence.
- Six (6) demerits or fewer at the time of hire.
- A current five (5)‑year commercial driver abstract.
- Review of prior unsafe driving infractions, which may result in non‑selection regardless of current demerit status.
- Graduated Driver’s Licence (GDL) holders may be considered, provided they have:
- Three (3) demerits or fewer, and
- A satisfactory driving behaviour review.
Physical and Medical Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including successful clearance of pre‑placement medical testing and drug and alcohol screening.
- Physical requirements include:
- Lifting and carrying up to 22 kg (50 lbs) on a regular basis.
- Working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Pre‑Employment Screening
- Security background clearance (criminal record check).
- Professional (work‑related) reference checks.

- Starting Wage: $28.18 per hour
- Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and based on a combination of factors as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
Hours of Work
- Ten (10) hours per day, four (4) days per week.
- Some roles may participate in a rotating shift schedule (day and night), subject to compressed hours and the Alternate Hours of Work Addendum, in accordance with the current CUPE 30 Collective Agreement.
Term and Work Conditions
- Some positions are required until fall 2026, while others may be needed for up to 24 months, depending on operational requirements.
- Successful candidates may be required to participate in a standby rotation (Wednesday to Wednesday).
- Overtime may be required.
- Work locations may include sites both within and outside the boundaries of the City of Edmonton.

Please note the following information:
- A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)
- If you are considered for the position, clearance on all applicable background checks (which may include criminal, identity, educational, and/or credit) and professional reference checks is required. Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.
- A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.
- To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
- Prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file.
